Happy B-Day, Teddy!

They've been speaking softly but carrying a big stick around Gramercy Park today. Celebrating the sesquicentennial of the birth of Theodore Roosevelt (he was born on October 27, 1858), the National Park Service has spent the past two days welcoming fans of the onetime Rough Rider to his birthplace. Grab yourself a monocle and a teddy bear and learn more about the man who was only 42 when he stepped into the role of America's chief executive officer after President William McKinley was assassinated, in 1901. The Teddy Roosevelt birthplace is located at 28 E. 20th Street.
