Indochine at 25

Our friends at Indochine recently celebrated their silver anniversary and to commemorate the occasion, invited a slew of fashion-industry celebs, hoteliers and Hollywood sorts to come by the restaurant to toast its twenty-five years of attracting New York's most glamorous crowd. In this special birthday video (shared with us by the Indochine powers that be), you'll spot boldface names including Iman, Padma Lakshmi, Carmen D'Alessio, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber. From all of us at New York Insider, happy birthday, and here's to the next 25. (But we'll excuse you if you stop counting at 29!)

Going Dutch

Manhattan recalled its Dutch roots last night—with a contemporary twist—at the opening of Dutch Seen: New York Rediscovered. The new exhibition, which will be on view at the Museum of the City of New York through mid-September, features contemporary works by Morad Bouchakour, Misha de Ridder, Wijnanda Deroo, Rineke Dijkstra, Charlotte Dumas, Hendrik Kerstens, Arno Nollen, Erwin Olaf, Jaap Scheeren, Danielle van Ark, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and Hellen van Meene.

Staged to coincide with the quadricentennial of the Dutch arrival in New York, the exhibition is one of the highlights of NY400 and was graced with a visit by Frans Timmermans, Dutch Minister for European Affairs. The NY400 celebrations will conclude in November, with the annual Peter Stuyvesant Ball.

Bathtub Gin, Anyone?

It was 75 years ago today that the booze started flowing freely (or at least legally) once again in New York. After thirteen years of teetotaling, residents of Gotham, along with the rest of America, were finally able to drink martinis, margaritas and yes, Manhattans, with abandon. Celebrate this momentous anniversary with a trip to one of New York's legendary one-time speakeasies, among them, the '21' Club and Bill's Gay Nineties. Once you're inside, toss one back for a generation of New Yorkers that risked arrest anytime they gathered to share a cocktail. And count your blessings. Unlike they did, you don't need to know a secret knock.

Suppertime!

Oh, what a year it's been. It seems like just yesterday that the Supper Club New York landed on our doorstep from across the Pond. And yet, in the twelve months since, the members-only social club has risen in stature to the point where boldface names and media influentials alike despair when they're unable to turn up for one of its events—from murder-mystery dinners to private brunches. So it seemed only fitting that a proper party was thrown in honor of the Supper Club's turning one year young. Held at the recently opened Haven, in midtown, the festivities were underwritten by Plymouth Gin and highlighted by Heatherette's Richie Rich popping out of an oversize cake and then singing "Happy Birthday" with American Idol contestant Joanne Borgella. Bet that didn't happen for your first birthday.
