Is Sixty the New Forty?

Brian Williams at the New York Press Club\'s 60th anniversary party. At an age when many doyennes are plotting their second face-lifts, the New York Press Club celebrated its sixtieth birthday looking as fit and toned as ever. The festivities took place tonight with a reception at the New York Historical Society. Special guest Brian Williams, anchor of NBC Nightly News, helped salute legendary Big Apple journalists Gabe Pressman, of WNBC, and Stan Brooks, of 1010 WINS, both of whom were inducted into the Club's Hall of Fame. Also honored were Dominic Carter, of NY1, and Rossana Rosado, publisher of El Diario. %%showphotos [setid=72157607527240199]%%

No, T5 is not a Terminator Sequel...

...it's the newest passenger facility at John F. Kennedy airport and the shiny home of JetBlue, which opened to dignitaries and media today. Among the luminaries who showed up for the ribbon- cutting included Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Radio City Rockettes and Queer Eye's Ted Allen. Fronted by the historic former TWA terminal designed by Aero Saarinen and opened in 1960, the new Terminal 5 has been built to handle up to 20 million passengers per year. The 635,000 square-foot terminal cost just under $800 million, a sum funded largely by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The swank terminal opens for passenger operations next month. The bad news? There are no guarantees that you won't still have to endure the flight cancellations and long delays for which New York's area airports are famous. The good news? At least you have a spiffy place to explore while you wait. %%showphotos [setid=72157607522144410 ]%%

Doubles or Nothing

Denizens of Doubles, the subterranean private lounge at the Sherry-Netherland, got the chance to sample the space's new look at a packed-to-the-banquettes party tonight. The redesigned interior, created by Thomas Britt and Valentino Samsonadze, seemed to get the thumbs-up from most members of the high-net-worth set. (None of whom seemed the least bit interested in the massive jar of jelly beans seen at left.) Erected during Prohibition, the Sherry-Netherland was built without a large dining facility, so Doubles is more of a bar-lounge than it is a restaurant. Food or no food, however, the space has had an active life, not least of which was its turn as a discoteque known as Raffles during the 1970s. Sadly, there is no mirrored ball anywhere to be found in the Britt-Samsonadze revamp. So much for "The Hustle." For more on the opening, check out George Gurley's very fine piece in the New York Observer.

Drew Lachey, on the Brighter Side of Life

Drew Lachey and the cast of Spamalot perform at the 2008 Broadway on Broadway. Photo by Emile Wamsteker. Drew Lachey, Bebe Neuwirth and Cheyenne Jackson were among the headliners appearing in this morning's "Broadway on Broadway" performance, held in the heart of Manhattan. More than 200 of the Great White Way's actors showed up in Times Square, hailing from shows including Avenue Q, Chicago, In the Heights, Spamalot, Xanadu and Young Frankenstein. Bailey Hanks and the cast of \ The free extravaganza, hosted by Lachey, was the seventeenth annual outing for Broadway on Broadway. For fans of big-budget musicals, the show is one of the year's easy-on-the-wallet must-sees. After all, without spending a dime, where else could you find a Greek muse masquerading as an Australian on roller skates in the same space as a medieval knight plucked from the wacky collective genius that is Monty Python?

Oh it Looks Like Daniel...Must Be the Clouds in My Eyes.

"Well Daniel says it's the best place that he's ever seen." When Elton John sang these lyrics for the first time in 1973, it's a safe bet he was not thinking of Daniel Boulud and his newly refurbished digs at Restaurant Daniel. Nonetheless, the superchef's eponymous restaurant has been given a substantial face-lift by designer Adam Tihany and needless to say, Boulud is very happy. "I felt it was time to refresh it, a modern sophistication on par with our cuisine," the chef says. The restaurant's first makeover since it opened on East 65th Street ten years ago, the look includes a new color palette and lighting as well as contemporary touches that were absent from the original. To borrow from Sir Elton once more, "Daniel, you're a star."

Oh, So Chic. (And Eco, Too.)

T-Rex may be extinct, but we don't have to be. Not as long as we act now and think about the environment when we go clothing shopping. And to prove that you can look like a million without spending a million on carbon offsets, the American Museum of Natural History hosted Be EcoChic tonight, an event that showcased a posse of eco-minded celebs strutting their stuff on a runway where sustainability went hand in hand with style. Lending their boldfaced names tonight (whether by attending or sashaying) were Adrian Grenier, Lauren Hutton, Olesya Rulin, Chevy and Jayni Chase, Angela Lindvall, Darren Moore, Boise Thomas, Patti Hansen, Theodora Richards, Tori Praver, Coltrane Curtis, Kimberly Pinkson, Carter Oosterhouse, Patti Hansen, Jayni Chase, Tamara Tunie, Former Miss USA, Susie Castillo, Malin Akerman, Alek Wek, Mark Indelicato, Alex Meneses, James Lesure, Kelly Bensimon, Tamara Feldman, Dominique Swain, Tom Kostigen, Joy Lauren and Laura Turner Seydel. And here's the good news....if it turns out that it's too late for the Earth after all, at least we'll go out in style.
