Michael Phelps: Bowled Over

The Olympic swimmer gives bowling a whirlThe record-breaking Olympian took a lap around a different sort of lane last night, joining a celebrity-dotted crowd to celebrate the seventieth birthday of Bowlmor Lanes, the iconic bowling alley in Greenwich Village. The technicolor hot-spot, where the people-watching is usually more interesting than the actual bowling, was packed to the rafters with party-goers, many of whom who never actually got to lift a bowling ball, but most of whom were more than happy to lift a glass. Although Bowlmor was founded in 1938, the lane gained a new lease on life in 1997, when the forlorn facility was acquired by entrepreneur Tom Shannon. Judging by last night's fete, eleven years later, Shannon's dream has plenty of life to spare. %%showphotos [setid=72157607842728177]%%
