New York Goes Wild for Harry

The colonial legacy of Governor's Island was reawakened yesterday when His Royal Highness, Harry, Prince of Wales, set foot on the 172-acre mass of land, which sits a half mile off the southern tip of Manhattan. Of course, Britain's bad-boy prince came not to conquer, but to play. Polo, that is.

Taking on Argentine heartthrob Nacho Figueras, of team Black Watch (you know him as the face of Polo fragrances), Britain's red-haired prince was the star member of team Sentebale, named for the charity he co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. "Prince Seeiso and I both lost our mothers when we were very young," Harry explained prior to the match. "We set up Sentebale in their memory, and because my mother loved this city, it makes this occasion all the more poignant for me."

Showing up to check out the high-profile game and to support the charity were celebs including Madonna, Kate Hudson, LL Cool J and Marc Jacobs.

The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic marked only the second time since 1941 that polo has been played on Governor's Island. Guests, many of whom paid $50,000 for a table in the VIP tent, got to see Prince Harry assist with the winning goal in the final seconds of the game, bringing home the cup for team Sentebale, with a final score of 6 to 5.

A fix? You be the judge. For more photos, click here.
