Going Dutch

The last time you heard "let's go Dutch" you were probably with a cheapskate date who tabulated a dinner tab down to the last dime so you could split it 50-50.

But next week, a cheapstake can dine in some of the city's best eateries without going halfsies. To commemorate the insanely low price the Dutch paid to the Native Americans for the island of Manhattan 400 years ago, more than 50 restaurants throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn will be offering special menus priced at $24. On the other hand, if you happen to have 60 Dutch guilders burning a hole in your pocket and want a great meal, use them up. Otherwise, dollars will be gladly accepted.

The promotion runs from September 5–20. The food won't be Dutch necessarily, but Dutch themes should be in plentiful quantities. Time to start calling  yourself Hans or Katerina? Photograph by Nirodha Abeywardana.
