The Bridge to Somewhere

Bid a fond farewell to the Triborough Bridge. As of today, the 72-year-old span connecting Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens will become the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, in honor of the late, slain senator from New York. A full complement from the Kennedy family is expected to attend the renaming ceremonies, which are being held this morning at Astoria Park, in Queens. "I really can't imagine a more appropriate way to honor his memory in his state," explained his daughter Kerry, at a news conference in August, "because he did reach out to so many people and did literally bridge so many divides." Were he still alive, Kennedy would have celebrated his 83rd birthday tomorrow. Now, instead of grumbling about the $5 toll (each way) to cross the bridge, you can ponder the legacy of a storied senator.
